Lighting Trends 2026/2027
Light +Build is the world's leading lighting trade fair and one not to miss. Since starting the business in 2008, we have been going to Light +Build religiously to connect to the industry and stay on top of trends. It's our commitment to the industry and our clients to stay relevant and keep offering inspirational luminaires.
So, fresh from the Light +Build show in Frankfurt, we would like to share the latest trends that you can expect in office and architectural lighting in the near future.
What are the latest trends?

Sculptural lighting.
Weightlessness, transparency and subtle designs delivering intimate, relaxing, and gentle lighting moods that positively influence physical well-being. The colour schemes and shapes are heavily inspired by nature. When using materials such as glass and metal, minimalist design solutions are calling for softly matte surfaces, transparent layering, and reflections inspired by sunlight.
Emotional connection.
Unconventional design that tells a story. Creative ideas and skilful execution make the designs unique – this is about celebrating craftsmanship and technology. The colours are diverse, ranging from vibrant to soft, accompanied by neutral shades and dark tones. Unconventional materials are being used to create these unique luminaires. Designers play with vintage associations or experiment with materials such as glass and ceramics, and metal finishes, particularly brass and copper.
Considered design.
Contemporary design is calling for material awareness, timeless aesthetics, and durable design. Designers demonstrate how well-thought-out lighting objects can go beyond pure functionality, enhancing spaces with both functional and atmospheric light. The colours are earthy, with strong presence, understated tones, and clear neutrals. This trend is showing focus in proven, and long-lasting materials. We have seen a lot of matte grey finish, aluminium and timber. Acoustics lighting enhancing user comfort is a strong message at this light fair.
The influence of decorative lighting
There has been definitely a push towards decorative style of lighting in commercial interiors. Customisation and bespoke elements are a huge trend this year. Understandably, lighting controls are a huge part of the future commercial interiors and we take this part of the offering very seriously.
