Overview.

Issued by the Secretary of State, the approved documents give practical guidance on common building situations and Part L lighting compliance requirements of the Building Regulations in England. The new building regulations came to effect on the 15th June 2022.

The new regulations are calling for higher efficiency in all aspects of fixed building services. Energy efficiency requirements for lighting are achieved through two methods of demonstrating compliance:

 - Minimum efficacy standards for light fittings
 - Lighting Energy Numerical Indicator (LENI) method.

The new Part L has been trimmed down to 2 parts - Volume 1 and Volume 2, offering general guidance on the performance expected of materials and building work in order to comply with each of the requirements of the Building Regulations
